How to restore GuideConnect from a backup, tutorial

How to restore GuideConnect from a backup.

This tutorial shows you how to restore GuideConnect from a backup file that you have saved on a memory stick or external hard drive. To restore GuideConnect, do the following.

Step 1: Plug the memory stick or external hard drive that the backup file is saved on into one of the USB ports of your computer. Then, on the GuideConnect main menu, go to the Tools option and open it.

Step 2: Find the Backup & Restore option and open it. Three options will be displayed. These are, Backup GuideConnect, Restore GuideConnect and Reset GuideConnect to Factory Settings.

Step 3: Move onto the Restore GuideConnect option and open it. A list of available drives will be displayed. This will include C Drive which is your computer’s main drive, GuideConnect will give the description, “local drive” to let you know this is the case. Other drives such as D, E, F and G might also be displayed. These are other drives such as disc drive, external hard drive and memory sticks that you have connected to your computer. These other drives will generally, but not always, have a description such as USB drive or storage drive.

Step 4: Move onto the drive that contains the GuideConnect backup file you wish to restore from and press Enter on it. GuideConnect will announce that backup files have been found and display a list of them. Use the arrow keys to find the backup you wish to restore from and press Enter on it. Note that if there is only 1 backup file on the memory stick or external hard drive a list will not be displayed, instead, GuideConnect will tell you that a backup file has been found and will ask you to confirm if you wish to continue with the restore.

Step 5: GuideConnect will ask you if you are sure you wish to continue with the restore as it might take a long time if it is a large file. If you wish to continue, move onto the Yes option and press Enter on it and the restore will start. If you do not wish to continue, move onto the No option and press Enter on it and you will be returned to the Backup & Restore menu.

Step 6: Whilst the restore is in progress, GuideConnect will say, “loading, please wait” until it has finished. Once the restore has finished, GuideConnect will announce, “restore complete”. Important note, do not do anything with your computer whilst the backup is in progress.

Step 7: You can now hold down the Escape key to jump back to the GuideConnect main menu before going to the Exit option and shutting down your computer. Remove the memory stick or external hard drive from the USB port once the computer has turned off.

How to backup GuideConnect, tutorial

This tutorial shows you how to create a backup file of GuideConnect and save it to a memory stick. To create a backup file of GuideConnect, do the following.

Step 5: Whilst the backup is in progress, GuideConnect will first say, “backing up GuideConnect” and will then continue to say, “loading, please wait” until it has finished. Once the backup has finished, GuideConnect will announce, “backup complete”.

Step 6: You can now hold down the Escape key to jump back to the GuideConnect main menu before going to the Exit option and shutting down your computer. Remove the memory stick or external hard drive from the USB port once the computer has turned off.

How to import music from a CD to your Dolphin GuideConnect music library, tutorial

This tutorial shows you how to import entire albums or individual tracks from CDs and add them to your GuideConnect music library. To import music from CDs, do the following.

Step 1: Insert the CD you wish to import into your disc drive. Note that if there is not a disc drive built into your computer or your device is a tablet or Dolphin TV Pod, you can plug in an external disc drive for this purpose.

Step 2: When on the GuideConnect main menu, navigate to the Entertainment option and press Enter to open it.

Step 3: Navigate to the Music and CD player option and press Enter to open it. Two options will be displayed. The first option is My Music and the second option is Play from a CD or Device.

Step 4: Navigate to the Play from a CD or Device option and press Enter to open it. A list of devices attached to your computer will be displayed. For example, D one of two, audio CD or E two of two 4.8 gigabytes available external drive.

Step 5: Open the audio CD option by pressing Enter on it. The name of the album on the CD along with the number of tracks it contains will be displayed.

Step 6: Press the F2 key to open the actions menu and press Enter on the Import to my music option. GuideConnect will ask you what you’d like to import and will give you two options.

Step 7: The first option is to import the selected track only. The second option is to import the complete album. Press Enter on the option you want and GuideConnect will start importing. Note that depending on how many tracks you’ve selected or how long the album you are importing is, this can take a few seconds or several minutes. Once importing is complete, GuideConnect will tell you and will say, Okay. Simply press Enter to confirm and clear the announcement and you will be returned to the track list of the CD. You are then free to use the Escape key to go back to the Music and CD player menu and eject the CD to import another if you wish.

HOT TIP: If you wish to select multiple individual tracks from a CD rather than importing the entire album, you can select individual tracks by pressing the Space Bar on them in the same way as you would when selecting multiple emails to delete.

How to share & import calendar events with Dolphin GuideConnect, tutorial

One of the great features of GuideConnect, is the ability to create calendar events and invite people to those events. It is also possible to add calendar events to your GuideConnect calendar that have been sent to you as email attachments.

This tutorial shows you how to create a calendar event and send that event to a person as an attachment on an email. The person you send it to is then able to add that event to their own calendar if they wish. It then shows you how to add calendar events that have been sent to you as email attachments to your GuideConnect calendar.

Creating a calendar event.

To create a calendar event, do the following.

Step 1: When on the GuideConnect main menu, navigate to the Address Book & Calendar menu and press Enter on it. Then, navigate to the Calendar option and press Enter on it. You are now in the Calendar menu. This menu displays three options. These are, Today’s Events, Upcoming Events and View Calendar.

Step 2: Press the F2 key to open the actions menu and press Enter on the, Add Event option.

Step 3: GuideConnect will ask you to choose a day. A list of days of the month will be displayed. Use the up or down arrow key to find the day you want and then press Enter on it.

Step 4: GuideConnect will then ask you to choose a month. A list of months of the year will be displayed. Use the up or down arrow key to find the month you want and then press Enter on it.

Step 5: GuideConnect will then ask you to choose a year. A list of years will be displayed. Use the up or down arrow key to find the year you want and then press Enter on it.

Step 6: GuideConnect will ask you to enter a name for the calendar event. Type or dictate the event name then press Enter.

Step 7: GuideConnect will then ask you to choose a time for the event, starting with the hour. A list of hours of the day is displayed in twenty four hour format. Use the up or down arrow key to find the hour you want and then press Enter on it.

Step 8: GuideConnect will then ask you to choose the minutes of the time for the event. A list of minutes of the hour is displayed in fifteen minute blocks. These blocks are, 00, 15, 30 and 45. Use the up or down arrow key to find the minutes you want and then press Enter on it.

Step 9: GuideConnect will then ask if you wish to repeat the event. A list of repeat options will be displayed. Use the up and down arrow keys to find the option you want and press Enter on it.

Step 10: GuideConnect will then ask if you wish to set a reminder for the event. A list of reminder options will be displayed. Use the up and down arrow keys to find the option you want and press Enter on it.

Step 11: Your calendar event has been created. GuideConnect will tell you that the event was added successfully and will say, okay. Press Enter to confirm and clear the announcement and you will be returned to the calendar menu.

Sending a calendar event as an attachment by email.

To send a calendar event as an email attachment so a person can add it to their own calendar, do the following.

Step 1: When in the Calendar menu, navigate to the, Upcoming Events option and press Enter on it. A list of the upcoming events you have in your GuideConnect calendar will be displayed to you. Alternatively, find the event you wish to share in the “View Calendar” option.

Step 2: Use the up and down arrow keys to find the event you wish to send as an attachment and press F2 on it to open the actions menu.

Step 3: Use the down arrow key to find the, Send Details As Attachment option and press Enter on it. Two options will be displayed.

Step 4: Option 1 allows you to type in the email address of the person you wish to send the email to. If you press enter on this option, a text box will open so you can type in the email address. Once you have done so, press Enter. A text box will open to allow you to type or dictate a subject for the email.

The second option allows you to choose a person from your Address Book. If you press Enter on this option, your Address Book will be opened. Navigate to the person in the list who you wish to send the email to, then press Enter on it. A text box will open to allow you to type or dictate a subject for the email.

Step 5: Type or dictate a subject for the email, then press Enter. A text box will open to allow you to type or dictate your email message.

Step 6: Once you’ve finished typing or dictating your email, press the F2 key to open the actions menu. The GuideConnect focus will automatically be on the, Send option. Press Enter on it and your email will be sent.

Step 7: GuideConnect will tell you when your email has been sent successfully and will say okay. Press Enter to confirm and clear the announcement. You will then be returned to the list of options in the calendar menu.

Adding a calendar event to your GuideConnect calendar.

To add a calendar event to your GuideConnect calendar that has been sent to you as an email attachment, do the following.

Step 1: Open and read the email that the calendar event has been attached to, then press F2 to open the actions menu.

Step 2: Use the down arrow key to find the, View Attachments option and press Enter on it. A list of the files attached to the email will be displayed.

Step 3: Use the up and down arrow keys to find the calendar attachment and press Enter on it. Calendar event attachments are typically named by the type of calendar that has sent the event and will generally be followed by a long number. For example, iCal345278 or gCal734137. The name of the calendar event will be displayed. For example, Christine’s 50th birthday party.

Step 4: Press F2 to open the actions menu and press Enter on the, Import selected event option.

Step 5: GuideConnect will ask if you are sure you wish to import the event and will give you a Yes and a No option. Press Enter on the Yes option to go ahead and add the event to your GuideConnect calendar. Alternatively, use the down arrow key to move to the No option and press Enter on it to not add the event to your GuideConnect calendar.

Step 6: If you choose the Yes option, GuideConnect will tell you that the event was imported successfully and will say, Okay. Press Enter to confirm and clear the announcement and you will be returned to the list of files attached to the email.

If you choose the No option, you will be returned to the attached calendar event name. You can press Escape to go back a step to the list of attached files, Escape again to go back a step to the body of the email and so on..

Sharing & importing contacts with Dolphin GuideConnect, tutorial

One of the excellent features of GuideConnect, is the ability to share contact cards from your address book as attachments on emails. It is also possible to import contact cards that have been sent to you as attachments on emails to your address book. These features enable you to share and import contacts in the same way that other computer users can.

This tutorial shows you how to share a contact card from your GuideConnect address book as an attachment on an email. It then shows you how to import a contact card you have received as an attachment on an email to your GuideConnect address book.

Sharing a contact card.

To share a contact card from your GuideConnect address book as an attachment on an email, do the following.

Step 1: Go to your GuideConnect Address Book and navigate to the contact card of the person you wish to share as an attachment.

Step 2: Press the F2 key to open the actions menu. Then, use the down arrow key to find the, Send Details As Attachment option and press Enter on it. Two options will be displayed.

Step 3: Option 1 allows you to type in the email address of the person you wish to send the email to. If you press enter on this option, a text box will open so you can type in the email address. Once you have done so, press Enter. A text box will open to allow you to type or dictate a subject for the email.

The second option allows you to choose a person from your Address Book. If you press Enter on this option, your Address Book will be opened. Navigate to the person in the list who you wish to send the email to, then press Enter on it. A text box will open to allow you to type or dictate a subject for the email.

Step 4: Type or dictate a subject for the email, then press Enter. A text box will open to allow you to type or dictate your email message.

Step 5: Once you’ve finished typing or dictating your email, press the F2 key to open the actions menu. The GuideConnect focus will automatically be on the, Send option. Press Enter on it and your email will be sent.

Step 6: GuideConnect will tell you when your email has been sent successfully and will say okay. Press Enter to confirm and clear the announcement. You will then be returned to your list of contacts in your GuideConnect Address Book.

Importing a contact.

To import a contact card that has been sent to you as an attachment on an email, do the following.

Step 1: Open the email with the attachment on it as usual, then press the F2 key to open the actions menu.

Step 2: Use the down arrow key to find the, View Attachments option and press Enter on it. A list of the files that are attached to the email will be displayed.

Step 3: Use the up and down arrow keys to find the contact card file. A contact card file is called a VCF file. Typically, it will be displayed as the person’s name followed by VCF. For example, Bob Jones VCF. Press Enter on the VCF file. GuideConnect will say, “Contacts”, followed by the name on the contact card followed by VCF. For example, “Contacts, Bob Jones VCF”. It will also tell you that actions are available.

Step 4: Press the F2 key to open the actions menu. Then, press Enter on the, Import selected contact option. GuideConnect will ask you if you are sure you want to import the contact. Simply press Enter on the Yes option to go ahead and import the contact. Alternatively, use the down arrow key to navigate to the No option and press Enter on it to cancel the import and return to the list of attachments.

Step 5: GuideConnect will tell you that the contact has been imported successfully and will say, Okay. Press Enter to confirm and clear the announcement. You can then use the Escape key to get back to your email inbox and continue using email.

How to delete email & file explorer folders that you have created with Dolphin GuideConnect, tutorial

This tutorial shows you how to delete email folders and File Explorer folders that you have created with GuideConnect.

Important note: If you are using a Dolphin remote to control GuideConnect, replace any instances of F2 key with Actions Button, any instances of Enter Key with Ok Button, any instances of Escape Key with Back Button and any instances of F6 key with Voice Dictation button.

Deleting email folders.

To delete email folders that you have created with GuideConnect, do the following.

Step 1: Make sure that the email folder that you wish to delete is empty of emails by moving them to another email folder (See the, How to move emails to alternative email folders with GuideConnect tutorial) or deleting the ones you do not wish to keep.

Step 2: Open the Email option on the GuideConnect menu, then use the down arrow key to find the Folders option and open it by pressing Enter on it.

Step 3: Find the empty folder that you wish to delete by using the down arrow key, then press the Delete key. Alternatively, press the F2 key to open the actions menu and use the down arrow key to find the Delete Folder option and press Enter on it.

Step 4: GuideConnect will ask you if you are sure that you wish to delete the email folder and will give you No and Yes options. Press Enter on the No option if you do not wish to delete the folder and you will be returned to the emails folders list. If you are sure that you wish to delete the email folder, use your down arrow key to move to the Yes option and press Enter on it. When you have confirmed that you wish to delete the email folder, you are returned to the email folders list and you will find that the folder you selected has been deleted.

Deleting File Explorer folders.

To delete File Explorer folders that you have created with GuideConnect, do the following.

Step 1: Make sure that the folder that you wish to delete is empty of files by moving them to another folder (See the, How to rename, move & copy files & folders with GuideConnect tutorial) or deleting the ones you do not wish to keep.

Step 2: Open the Tools option on the GuideConnect menu, then use the down arrow key to find the File explorer option and open it by pressing Enter on it.

HOT TIP: If you wish to delete a folder from a memory stick or external hard drive, follow the steps described here but include this extra step at this stage. Press the F2 key to open the actions menu and press Enter on the Go to my devices option. A list of any memory sticks or external hard drives you have connected to your computer will be displayed. Use your arrow keys to find the device you want and then press Enter on it to view the files and folders within it.

Step 3: Find the empty folder that you wish to delete by navigating through your folder structure, then press the Delete key on it. Alternatively, press the F2 key to open the actions menu and use the down arrow key to find the Delete Selected Folder option and press Enter on it.

Step 4: GuideConnect will ask you if you are sure that you wish to delete the folder and will give you No and Yes options. Press Enter on the No option if you do not wish to delete the folder and you will be returned to the File Explorer folders list. If you are sure that you wish to delete the folder, use your down arrow key to move to the Yes option and press Enter on it. When you have confirmed that you wish to delete the folder, you are returned to the File Explorer folders list and you will find that the folder you selected has been deleted.

How to rename, move or copy files & folders with Dolphin GuideConnect, tutorial

This tutorial shows you how to rename, move or copy files/folders of any type with GuideConnect. Follow the steps below.

Note: If you are using a Dolphin remote to control GuideConnect, replace all instances of F2 key with Actions Button, all instances of Enter Key with Ok Button and all instances of Escape Key with Back Button.

Step 1: Go to the, Tools option on the GuideConnect main menu and press Enter to open it.

Step 2: Use the down arrow key to find the, File Explorer option and press Enter on it. A list of your folders will be displayed to you.

HOT TIP 1: The file explorer is the best way to have full control over your files/folders, no matter what type of files/folders they are. The File Explorer displays all types of file rather than just document files as it does when you are using the letters and documents menu or just photo files as it does when you are using the scanner and camera function. The file explorer will display Word files, RTF files, Plain Text files, old Guide document files from previous versions of Guide, PDF files, jpeg files, mp3 files etc. In addition, by using the File Explorer, you can select any file from any folder and copy or move it to any other folder on your computer or external device, as well as rename, copy and move folders.

HOT TIP 2: When you first go into the File Explorer, you can view files and folders that are on external devices connected to your computer by pressing the F2 key and selecting the, Go To My Devices option. A list of drives such as memory sticks, external hard drives, mp3 players that you have connected to your computer will be displayed. You can press Enter on a device to see the files and folders within it. You can then follow the steps bellow to rename, copy or move files.

Step 3: Navigate through your folders to find the file/folder you wish to rename, copy or move then press the F2 key on it.

Step 4: A list of actions will be displayed to you which will include, Rename, Move and Copy. Press Enter on the action you wish to perform.

– If you chose to rename the file/folder, GuideConnect will ask you to type a new name for it. Once you have done so, press Enter. GuideConnect will then confirm that the file/folder has been renamed. Press Enter to confirm.

– If you chose to move the file/folder, GuideConnect will ask you to select the folder that you wish to move the file/folder to. A list of folders will be displayed to you for this purpose. The first option will always be, “Move to this folder”. To see the folders available to you, use your down arrow key. When you have found the folder you wish to move the file/folder to, press enter on it. The first option that will be displayed is, “move to this folder”. Simply press the Enter key on that option. Note that, if you are moving a file/folder from an external device, you will need to press F2 and select the, Go To My Documents option before the destination folder can be selected.

– If you chose to copy the file/folder, GuideConnect will ask you to select the folder that you wish to copy the file/folder to. A list of folders will be displayed to you for this purpose. The first option will always be, “Copy to this folder”. To see the folders available to you, use your down arrow key. When you have found the folder you wish to copy the file/folder to, press enter on it. The first option that will be displayed is, “Copy to this folder”. Simply press the Enter key on that option. Note that, if you are copying a file/folder from an external device, you will need to press F2 and select the, Go To My Documents option before the destination folder can be selected.

Step 5: GuideConnect will ask you if you are sure you wish to move/copy the file/folder to the location you have selected. Select the, Yes option by pressing Enter on it. GuideConnect will then tell you that the file/folder has been moved/copied successfully. Press Enter to confirm.

Step 6: When you have finished managing your files, simply use the Escape key to get back to the GuideConnect main menu.

How to create folders in File Explorer with Dolphin GuideConnect, tutorial

How to create folders in File Explorer with GuideConnect.

This tutorial shows you how to create folders in file explorer with GuideConnect. Note that creating folders for emails is a different process and is covered in the tutorial titled How to create email folders with GuideConnect. To create folders in file explorer, follow the steps below.

Important note: If you are using a Dolphin remote to control GuideConnect, replace any instances of F2 key with Actions Button, any instances of Enter Key with Ok Button, any instances of Escape Key with Back Button and any instances of F6 key with Voice Dictation button.

Step 1: Go to the, Tools option on the GuideConnect main menu and press Enter to open it.

Step 2: Use the down arrow key to find the, File Explorer option and press Enter on it. A list of your folders will be displayed to you.

HOT TIP 1: When you create a new letter or document on GuideConnect and save it, the file is automatically saved as a Rich Text Format (RTF) file into the Documents folder. It is not possible to select an alternative destination folder for the saved file. Instead, the File Explorer function of GuideConnect enables you to comprehensively manage the files and folders on your computer, including creating as many folders as you like and moving files into and out of those folders as you see fit.

HOT TIP 2: When you first go into File Explorer, you can view files and folders that are on external devices connected to your computer and therefore create folders on those devices by pressing the F2 key and selecting the, Go To My Devices option. A list of drives such as memory sticks, external hard drives, mp3 players that you have connected to your computer will be displayed. You can press Enter on a device to see the files and folders within it. You can then follow the steps bellow to create folders on that device.

Step 3: Navigate through your folders to find the one in which you wish to create another folder, then press the Enter key to open it. A list of the files and folders within it will be displayed. If the folder is empty, nothing will be displayed.

Step 4: Press the F2 key to open the actions menu. A list of actions will be displayed to you which will include, New Folder. Press Enter on this option if you wish to create a new folder.

Step 5: An empty text box will be displayed on the screen and GuideConnect will ask you to give the folder a name. Simply type or dictate the name that you wish to give the new folder and then press Enter. Your new folder is now created and you can use the up and down arrows to find it.

Step 6: Repeat steps 1 to 5 to create other new folders elsewhere on your computer.

Step 7: When you have finished creating new folders, simply use the Escape key to get back to the GuideConnect main menu.

Using email with Dolphin GuideConnect, tutorial

This tutorial takes you through the steps to retrieve, read and reply to emails. It also shows you how to create new emails and send them.

Reading emails.

To retrieve emails and read them, do the following.

Step 1: When on the GuideConnect main menu, press Enter on the Emails menu option. The Email menu will open.

Step 2: Navigate to the Inbox menu option and press Enter on it. The inbox will open and a list of the emails within it will be displayed.

HOT TIP 1: You can retrieve new emails manually by pressing the F2 key whilst you are in the inbox. The first option in the actions list is, Check for new emails. Simply press Enter on this option and Guide Connect will retrieve any new emails you may have. If there are no new emails, GuideConnect will tell you.

Step 3: Use the up and down arrow keys to navigate to the email you wish to read and press Enter on it. The email will be opened and GuideConnect will display it on the screen. If you have GuideConnect’s voice turned on, the email will be read out to you.

HOT TIP 2: You can pause the email being read out by pressing the Ctrl key and can start it reading again from the paused position by pressing the F5 key. You can also navigate through the email at your own speed by using the up and down arrow keys to move a line at a time.

Replying to an email.

To reply to an email, do the following.

Step 1: Whilst you have the email you have read open, press the F2 key to open the actions menu.

Step 2: Use the down arrow key to find the Reply option and press Enter on it. A message body text box will open to allow you to type or dictate your reply.

Step 3: Once you’ve finished typing or dictating your reply, press the F2 key to open the actions menu. The GuideConnect focus will automatically be on the, Send option. Press Enter on it and your reply will be sent.

Step 4: GuideConnect will tell you when your reply has been sent successfully and will say, okay. Press Enter to confirm and clear the announcement. Once you have done this, you are returned to the emails list in the inbox.

HOT TIP 3: It is possible to perform a number of actions on an email in the inbox list, including replying to an email, without actually opening the email. To do this, instead of pressing Enter on an email to open it, press the F2 key to open the actions menu. From this actions menu, you can choose to reply to the email, forward the email etc.

Creating and sending a new email.

There are two ways to create and send new emails with GuideConnect. Follow the steps below for your preferred method.

Method A.

Step 1: When on the GuideConnect main menu, navigate to the Address Book and Calendar menu option and press Enter on it.

Step 2: The focus of GuideConnect will automatically be on the Address Book option. Press Enter on it to open it and a list of your contacts will be displayed.

Step 3: Navigate to the person in the list you wish to send the email to, then press the F2 key on it to open the actions menu.

Step 4: Use the down arrow key to find the, Send Email option and press Enter on it. A text box will open to allow you to type or dictate a subject for the email.

Step 5: Type or dictate a subject for the email, then press Enter. A text box will open to allow you to type or dictate your email message.

Step 6: Once you’ve finished typing or dictating your email, press the F2 key to open the actions menu. The GuideConnect focus will automatically be on the, Send option. Press Enter on it and your email will be sent.

Step 7: GuideConnect will tell you when your email has been sent successfully and will say, okay. Press Enter to confirm and clear the announcement. You are then returned to your list of contacts in your Address Book.

Method B.

Step 1: When on the GuideConnect main menu, navigate to the Emails menu option and press Enter on it.

Step 2: The focus of GuideConnect will automatically be on the, Write New Email option. Press Enter on it to open it and two options will be displayed.

Step 3: Option 1 allows you to type in the email address of the person you wish to send the email to. If you press enter on this option, a text box will open so you can type in the email address. Once you have done so, press Enter. A text box will open to allow you to type or dictate a subject for the email.

The second option allows you to choose a person from your Address Book. If you press Enter on this option, your Address Book will be opened. Navigate to the person in the list who you wish to send the email to, then press Enter on it. A text box will open to allow you to type or dictate a subject for the email.

Step 4: Type or dictate a subject for the email, then press Enter. A text box will open to allow you to type or dictate your email message.

Step 5: Once you’ve finished typing or dictating your email, press the F2 key to open the actions menu. The GuideConnect focus will automatically be on the, Send option. Press Enter on it and your email will be sent.

Step 6: GuideConnect will tell you when your email has been sent successfully and will say okay. Press Enter to confirm and clear the announcement. You will then be returned to the Email menu.

Navigating & manipulating text with Dolphin GuideConnect, tutorial

This tutorial gives you the key commands you need to navigate and manipulate text when writing documents, letters or emails on Dolphin GuideConnect. The tutorial tells you which key command to use for specific actions followed by a brief description of what the key command does.

General key commands.

Use the following key commands when you are creating or editing a document, letter or email.

Press and release the Control key: Stops GuideConnect reading at current position.

Press and release the F5 key: Starts GuideConnect reading from current position.

Hold down the Control key and press and release the F5 key: Proof reads the text with punctuation.

Press and release the F2 key: Opens the actions menu for the letter, document or email you are working on. In the actions list you will find options such as, Spell Check, Print etc.

Navigating text.

Use the following key commands to navigate around documents, letters or emails that you are typing/editing.

Press and release the right arrow key: Reads the next character.

Press and release the left arrow key: Reads the previous character.

Press and release the down arrow key: Reads the next line of text.

Press and release the up arrow key: Reads the previous line of text.

Hold down the Ctrl key and press and release the right arrow key: Reads out text word by word forwards through the document, letter or email.

Hold down the Ctrl key and press and release the left arrow key: Reads out text word by word backwards through the document, letter or email.

Hold down the Ctrl key and press and release the down arrow key: Reads out text sentence by sentence forwards through the document, letter or email.

Hold down the Ctrl key and press and release the up arrow key: Reads out text sentence by sentence backwards through the document, letter or email.

Press and release the Home key: Moves you to the start of the current line of text.

Press and release the End key: Moves you to the end of the current line of text.

Hold down the Control key and press and release the Home key: Moves you to the beginning of the document, letter or email.

Hold down the Control key and press and release the End key: Moves you to the end of the document, letter or email.

Manipulating text.

Use the following key commands to select, cut, copy, paste or change formatting of text.

Selecting text.

You must select text before you can change its formatting, cut or copy it. There are two ways to select text.

Method 1.

A: Hold down the Control and Shift keys at the beginning of the text you wish to select. Whilst still holding these keys down press and release the right arrow key until you get to the end of the text you wish to select before releasing all of the keys. This selects each word as you move along the text and GuideConnect reads out what you have selected as you go. Alternatively, you can select text character by character by holding down the Shift key on its own whilst pressing and releasing the right arrow key or hold down the Ctrl key and use the down arrow key to select whole lines at a time.

B: Now use the key command to perform the action you want for the selected text. For example, hold down the Control key and press and release the letter C key to copy it.

Method 2.

A: Hold down the Control key and press and release the letter A key to select all of the text in the document, letter or email.

B: Now use the key command to perform the action you want for the selected text. For example, hold down the Control key and press and release the letter C key to copy it.

Manipulating text key commands.

Hold down the Control key and press and release the letter X key: Cuts selected text and puts it in the clipboard.

Hold down the Control key and press and release the letter C key: Copies selected text and puts it in the clipboard.

Hold down the Control key and press and release the letter V key: Pastes text that you have cut or copied into the current cursor position.

Press and release the Delete key: Deletes selected text.

Hold down the Control key and press and release the letter B key: Makes selected text bold. Use the same shortcut key to toggle bold off.

Hold down the Control key and press and release the letter U key: Underlines the selected text. Use the same shortcut key to toggle underline off.

Hold down the Control key and press and release the letter I key: Makes the selected text italic. Use the same shortcut key to toggle italic off.

Hold down the Control key and press and release the letter E key: Centrally aligns the selected text.

Hold down the Control key and press and release the letter L key: Aligns the selected text to the left.

Hold down the Control key and press and release the letter R key: Aligns the selected text to the right.

Hold down the Control key and press and release the letter N key: Returns all text formatting changes to normal.
