How to add attachments to emails with Dolphin GuideConnect, new method, tutorial

How to add attachments to emails with GuideConnect.

Dolphin recently updated the method by which attachments are added to email. This new method is significantly easier than the much longer and more complicated old method. To add attachments to emails using the new method, do the following.

Note: If you are using a Dolphin remote to control GuideConnect, replace all instances of F2 key with Actions Button, all instances of Enter Key with Ok Button and all instances of Escape Key with Back Button.

Step 1: Find the file or files you wish to attach to the email.

Hot Tip: To have access to all file types so you can find Rich Text documents, Word documents, PDF documents, jpeg image files and even mp3 music or audiobook files, use the File Explorer option in the GuideConnect Tools menu.

Step 2: When you find the file you wish to attach to an email, move onto it so it is highlighted then press the F2 key to open the actions menu.

Step 3: Use the down arrow key to find the, “send as email attachment” option and press Enter on it. GuideConnect will then take you through the usual steps for creating an email.

Step 4: Once the email is created, press the F2 key to open the actions menu and press Enter on the, “Send” option and your email along with the attachment will be sent.

Hot Tip: If you wish to attach multiple files, use the Space Bar method to select the files you wish to attach before you press the F2 key and choose the, “send as email attachment” option.

End of tutorial.

My interview about my journey through sight loss with the guys from Virosis Clothing

Something a bit different for you today.

A couple of good friends of mine, Graham D and CJ, have recently started a pod cast called the Virosis Clothing pod cast. Virosis Clothing is a new alternative T-shirt enterprise created by Graham D, whose ethos and branding are all about facing adversity, overcoming challenges and emerging relentless through whatever life throws at you. The pod cast is an extension of those concepts, has focus around music, movies, gaming and relaxed humour. The guys play new songs from up and coming alternative/metal/hardcore bands from all around the world and often include interviews with those bands. The show often has some sort of slightly off the wall segment such as a death match between sci fi heroes and villains, which are always good fun. The whole pod cast has a really chilled vibe and is always fun to listen to. The T-shirt designs are really cool too and tie in superbly to the “Emerge Relentless” theme.

One of the features the guys have included on the show is interviews with people who have real life stories of facing adversity, overcoming the odds, persisting against where others have given up etc. I was thrilled when the guys asked me to be their first interview to tell the story of my sight loss, how I handled it, how I adapted to living with no sight and ultimately, where I am today in terms of having overcome the loss of my sight. It was a really great interview and we had a lot of fun doing it. We ended up with so much that they decided to split it across the first three episodes of the pod cast. The guys have given me exclusive permission to share the interview in isolation in its entirety here. So, without further ado, here it is: JG Virosis pod cast interview, facing adversity 2019.mp3

If you would like to check out the pod cast, simply search for Virosis Clothing in your chosen pod cast app.

Kids audio book news and audio sample

I’m thrilled to announce that my book for kids age 7+, The Adventures of Larry the Stick Insect: Larry the Dancing King,, currently available on Amazon Kindle, is now also available as an audio book on Audible, Amazon and iTunes.

As you know, I am blind and work with visually impaired adults and children as an assistive technology trainer/enablement coach. In the interest of making the book as accessible as possible I published it on Amazon Kindle so it can be read by visually impaired and sighted people alike on any device with the Kindle app installed on it. Having it produced as an audio book is an extension of this that makes it even more accessible to everybody..

So what’s the book about? It’s about a young stick insect, his friends and his adventures as he attends his school’s end of year dance. Larry loves Miranda who is a beautiful Ladybird, but as with any good story there’s a bad guy. That bad guy is Marv, a Praying Mantis who along with his sidekicks Vic and Kane bullies Larry and his friends and acts like he owns the school. In Larry the Dancing King Larry is confronted by Marv in front of his entire school, but Larry has a secret which he reveals to the astonishment of everybody present. The book is funny and paints a vivid picture of the action whilst having a good moral at its core. It’s been well received by children and adults alike.

Here’s an audio sample of the book: Larrythedancingking-retailaudiosample.mp3

Book news

I’m very happy to announce that my poetry book The Edge of Darkness, currently available on Amazon Kindle, will also be available as an audio book this year! It’s in the production stage at the moment, so once production is finished I’ll be able to give a better idea of the release schedule. What I can say is that it’ll be available on Audible, iTunes and Google Play. I’m very excited!

As some of you may know I am blind and work with visually impaired adults and children as an assistive technology trainer/enablement coach. In the interest of making the book as accessible as possible I published it on Amazon Kindle so it can be read by visually impaired and sighted people alike on any device with the Kindle app installed on it. Having the book made as an audio book is an extension of this that will make it even more accessible to everybody..

So what’s the book about? It’s a book of poetry presented in two collections. The first collection contains pieces I wrote during my journey through sight loss. This first collection starts off rather dark (no pun intended) but gradually becomes less so as I begin to come to terms with my situation. The second collection is made up of individual pieces that I wrote for a variety of reasons. Some because of my love of sci-fi and fantasy, some because of historic events, some because of personal experiences and some just because I wanted to.

The Kindle version can be purchased at: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071RN8DL7/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493327228&sr=8-1&keywords=james+goldsworthy+the+edge+of+darkness

An Exciting Day for AVC

It’s been an exciting day for AVC today. I was invited to take part in a radio interview for RNIB Tech Talk to speak about Dolphin products. The interview featured the show’s presenter, Steven Scott, talking to Dolphin’s Chief Operations Officer, Steve Bennett, and me as both a user of Dolphin products and an accredited trainer on SuperNova and Guide.

The show lasts for around 30 minutes in which we talk about the different assistive technology products available from Dolphin, our various experiences of assistive technology in general and address some misconceptions, in particular regarding what SuperNova and Guide can or cannot do.

It was a really interesting experience and was actually quite fun. The show is due to go out on air in a couple of weeks time. I will of course post confirmation of the date and time once I know them.

How one device can be so versatile

Have been working with two clients today on #VoiceOver for #iOS. Very different requirements from the two of them. One very focused on wanting to be socially active with the use of email, txt messaging, some word processing and some #Facebook use. The other purely focused on accessing audio books and ebooks through #Audible and #DolphinEasyReader as well as using her device for assisting in day to day living. So we’ve done some work around using the built in magnifier app on her device and utilising several of the features in #SeeingAI as well. For me this really helps highlight just how useful an iOS device with a couple of apps installed can be to a person with sight loss. I think it clearly demonstrates that people can have such different requirements for their tech yet still have that ever present goal of remaining as independent as possible. I love my job.
